Sony PS5 release on 2015

From the cnet reviews, the PlayStation overlord dropped a heavy hint that we'll see the next console hit shelves at the beginning of the next decade.

Extolling the PS4's virtues as a games deck, Kaz said the console would have a lifespan of 10 years, but hinted that its successor could be here sooner than we thought.

"PlayStation 4 is going to be a console that's going to be with you for 10 years," he said, adding "We're not going to ask the consumers to suddenly buy another PlayStation console in five years time, and basically have their investment go by the wayside."

Comparing the lifecycle to that of the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, Kaz reckons there's room for significant overlap, and although he refused to give direct predictions on the PS5's launch, it's not the first murmur we've heard of its development.

Still, with Sony suffering production troubles with its current next-gen offering, and shortages all but guaranteed for Christmas, it's nice to know they've got their thinking caps on nice and early for the next member of the PlayStation family.
